Our Community
The community in which we service is a
mixture of cultures blending together to make Carson City, Nevada a
unique capitol of the State of Nevada. Settled at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, Carson City was scouted out by Kit Carson in 1858. Soon the area would become important because of the wealth of gold and silver in the mountains of Nevada and thus Nevada gets its name "The Silver State."
Carson City has a population of about
50,000 which includes three Native American tribes. The city settles in
the valley at 4,900 feet with the mountain range extending throughout
the valley. The most known are Slide Mountain, Mt. Rose and Jobs Peak at
about 11,000 feet. Over the mountain just 13 miles is beautiful Lake
Tahoe. Carson City has no major shopping malls but plenty of stores and strip malls. Reno, just 30 miles away, provides a large variety of shopping. The popular saying in Carson City is that people are "passing through" on the way to Reno or Tahoe. Some do settle in Carson City but the turn-over rate is very high. It is estimated that only 2.9% of the population of Nevada have a church home. Carson City is high desert, therefore gets plenty of snow and cold temperatures. Each day you can almost be sure the wind will begin to blow over and down the Sierra Nevada Mountains sometime in the afternoon. The Carson City area has as its industry mostly of gaming (casinos), mining, government, and small businesses, while there is plenty of outdoor activities to keep in mind also. The area has plenty hiking, camping, fishing and water sports in the summer, while during the winter, skiing and snow sports are the main attraction. Carson City is located in Eagle Valley and is almost entirely surrounded by mountain ranges.
